Make it a Daily Thing

Set aside a specific time for reading every day. Bedtime or after meals is a great time. Over time, as we remain consistent, our children look forward to that reading time, which often turns it into a routine they’ll cherish long after they’ve grown up and left the house.

Lead by Example

Kids learn by observing what their parents do, and when they see their parents enjoying reading, they’ll be more likely to embrace it. 

So grab a book, flip through a magazine, even an e-reader will do. By sharing your own reading moments illustrates that reading is an enjoyable activity for everyone.

Create a Cosy Reading Space

A comfy, cosy nook dedicated to reading can make all the difference. Pick a place in your home that’s nice and quiet. Throw in some soft cushions, be sure you add some good lighting, and always keep a couple of their favourite reads (more on that later) within easy reach. 

This welcoming space invites your child to sit down and dive into a story.

Let your child pick the books they want to read. When our children feel in control, they’re more excited about the experience.
